best squizzors EVER!

Due to severe arthritis I have joint replacements in my hand and the bone fused in the thumb so these scissors are exactly what I need to be able to do fine cutting. They are *very* sharp and the tip can get into the smallest of places. I’ve had excellent results using them for my sewing needs, crafts with paper, ribbon or light fabrics, and even in the garden.

I recently challenged them to clean up a couple of baskets of succulents that I kept indoors over winter. They were able to get into all the tightest space to clean the brown, dead leaves away and revive the plants without disturbing any of the good stems.

I like that the spring does half the work for you which makes things go much faster and easier when working with them. They are also very lightweight which thwarts fatigue in longer, heavier tasks.

If your home suffers from wet soil conditions or frequent flooding or standing water from even the smallest amount of rainfall, possibly you will have to consider installing a lot of underground drainage piping or catch basins. If you are using the wrapped pipe, a little amount of stone is placed along the trench bottom, graded on a slope to the low end of the trench and the pipe then rolled out in the trench. Trying to keep the pipe centered in the trench as much as possible, cautiously add stone to cover the pipe and anchor it in place. Once the pipe is covered, back fill the trench to grade level.

The easiest way to determine the slope of your trench and piping is to use a simple level and rod available for rent at all rental stores. After mounting the level on the proper tripod and making sure the level itself is level using the three screws on the bottom of the level and the bubble level on the base of the level, place the rod on the top of the catch basin and read the numbers in the cross hairs of the level. Most rods employed today are metric measurement and are very easy to use. Notice the rods amid the feet marks are only from one to 10. There is no 12 on the stick. The one foot distance is broken up into 10 tenths and 100 hundreths. If the horizontal cross hair is on the 3 foot plus a huge 2 plus 4 of the little black hash marks. You are reading 3.24 feet. Each side or edge of a hash mark is one, so 3 full marks is 6 and so on. Now take a measurement at the end where the pipe is going to come out to daylight. Perhaps fifty feet away or so. Now be careful here. This measurement is going to be higher or longer than your last one as it is lower in elevation. You read 7.46 feet on the stick. Now deduct the 3.24 from the 7.46 and you see you will lose 4.22 feet in elevation over the fifty foot distance. Doing rough math for each twelve and 1/2 feet of trench you will drop your pipe approximately one foot. Over the entire length the pipe will drop 4.22 feet. The.22 feet (3 inches) being made up in the last length of pipe at the end. Soooo if we started with a measurement of 3.24 on top of the basin and the basin is 12″deep we must read 4.24 at the bottom of the pipe at the basin itself no matter what size pipe you are using. It is the bottom that matters not the top. Now each 12 1/2 feet add one foot to the measurement to determine the pipe bottom elevation at that point. 5.24, 6.24, 7.24 and so on. Once you get applied to doing this work, it is posing no difficulty to do your math adding the stone thickness you are using underneath the pipe (say 4″) and just measure to the world while the machine is digging the trench. Then by placing the 4″ of stone the pipe will always be on proper elevation grade. Just check each once in awhile to see to it everything is correct.

If you are using a catch basin in your drainage system, that must be installed first. Excavate the hole to the required depth so the top of the catch basin is somewhat beneath the surrounding area. Over excavate a few inches and place a heap of stone under the basin. This will provide both a solid base for the basin and a lot of further and added sump area for water to gather underground. Placing galore base stone in your trench, attach the pipe to the basin and roll the pipe out 20 feet or so. Now back fill the basin and pipe making sure there are no humps in the piping as you go. If the pipe is permitted to go up and down, it will trap water. Some slight left and right alignment is fine but keep it as straight as possible. Now proceed with the rest of your trenching and piping work. A word of caution here. If your trench at any time outperforms four feet deep, you ought to install shoring to hold back the banks of the trench. If you were kneeling down to join two lengths of piping or to remove a big stone and the bank caved in on your back, you will quickly suffocate and die. Don t take chances! If you are filling your trenches with pure stone, it is a good idea to use a plate compactor each foot or so to push the stone into place leaving no voids. Trenches are seldom utterly straight sided and any voids left behind will cave in and make your trenches sink later on. If done correctly, the trenches ought to be as stable as the original ground only much drier.

Lastly, if water is being kept on top of the ground due to subsurface rock that will not concede the water to drain, heavier instrumentation is going to be required to excavate the drainage trenches. Three gifted fabric designers Amy Butler, Brandon Malby and Denyse Schmidt are making a name for themselves in today’s fashion industry. Brandon Malby

As manager of Kaffe Fassett’s London Studio, artisan Brandon Malby is making a name for himself as an international fabric designer, an interesting twist for a man who begun his career as a cook. In fact, it was his talent for cooking that basi drew Brandon and the well-known architect together. After meeting at a bus stop, Brandon often times dropped by the Fassett studio around lunch time and cooked terrifi mid-day meals for the staff.

Brandon’s love of knitwear design comes from an early interest in working with yarn. As young boy he was attracted to the bright and varied colors of the yarns sold in a local shop. His gift for combining colors and textures to construct pretty and distinguishable garments was intensified as he traveled with Kaffe doing workshops and absorbing the culture in such places as Africa, India and Central America.

For assorted years, Brandon has been designing fabrics, and it’s easy to see the influence of his love for color and knitting showing up in his patterns. Brandon’s prints are rich in texture and free form nuances, often patterned in rows that fetch to mind the ribbing of a hand knit scarf or sweater.

Denyse Schmidt

Denyse studied graphic design at Rhode Island School of Design, where she pursued her love for fabrics and quilts. super for quilting aid, mechanical pencil made in france

I just purchased this and I am useing it on a quilt that I am making. The background fabric is very dark blue and I have to place 409 yo yo’s on this and precisely place each one. Other making aids either the chalk just didn’t stay in place long enough or the pencil types you had to press down so hard to get the mark on the fabric and sometimes after you ue the pencil type they just get shiny and won’t mark. This extra fine mechanical which comes with lots of extra refills, makes the most fine line and just by lightly drawing it. Its the best tool I have ever used for marking.
it is more expensive but well worth the price.
I like this tool so much I just ordered another one !!!

Mannequins have been around since as early as 1350 BC, where a wooden mannequin torso was buried next to King Tutankhamen’s costume chest. Why Fiskars are the best brand for preschoolers

If you’ve ever owned cheap dollar store children’s scissors, you’ll understand why Fiskars are superior.

* They have a blunted tip for safety.
* They have excellent paper cutting ability, especially important for children who are just learning or have difficulty handling scissors.
* They can be used by both lefthanded and righthanded children.
* Though they cut paper, they don’t easily cut skin. I can run my hand over the blade without hurting myself.
* Quality construction. The blades line up perfectly and the handles don’t fall off.

I once bought dollar store children’s scissors, but now I only buy Fiskars.
